Project Sifu is a groundbreaking initiative that aims to provide young people in the UK with the tools to build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of identity, through the fusion of Martial Arts training and filmmaking.
The project will combine the teaching of Martial Arts techniques with the creative process of filming and recreating iconic fight scenes from East Asian Martial Arts cinema. This concept looks to not only empower the young participants by teaching them self-defence and discipline, but also to foster creativity through filmmaking, helping them to tell their stories and build their community ties.
The project will run from January 2025 through to March/April of the same year. The participants will be made up of roughly 18 individuals from underprivileged backgrounds, who show an interest in both Martial Arts and Cinematography. If you would like to be considered for participation please contact the team.
The project will run by Dr Wayne Wong, Lecturer in East Asian Studies at the University of Sheffield; and Ms. Soo Cole, Co-Founder of the Fighting Spirit Film Festival. They can be contacted at:
